SUMMARY:International Day of Democracy
DESCRIPTION:The International Day of Democracy provides an opportunity to review the state of democracy in the world. Democracy is as much a process as a goal\, and only with the full participation of and support by the international community\, national governing bodies\, civil society and individuals\, can the ideal of democracy be made into a reality to be enjoyed by everyone\, everywhere. \nThe values of freedom\, respect for human rights and the principle of holding periodic and genuine elections by universal suffrage are essential elements of democracy.  In turn\, democracy provides the natural environment for the protection and effective realization of human rights. These values are embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and further developed in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights\, which enshrines a host of political rights and civil liberties underpinning meaningful democracies.

DESCRIPTION:International Youth Day is celebrated annually on 12 August to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society.\nThe Day gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices\, actions and initiatives\, as well as their meaningful\, universal and equitable engagement.  \nIt was established by the UN General Assembly (A/RES/54/120)\, which on 17 December 1999\, endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth calling for 12 August to be declared International Youth Day.

DESCRIPTION:Human Trafficking is a massive worldwide problem that crosses borders and very few countries are immune to human trafficking. Thousands of men\, women and children are trapped in some form of modern-day slavery and end up in the hands of traffickers every year. \nA global problem like trafficking needs a worldwide solution and therefore\, it’s time for government agencies\, civil societies and NGOs to raise awareness\, coordinate their efforts to fight against the devastating issue and promote the protection of people’s fundamental human rights. \nTherefore\, every year\, World Day against Trafficking in Persons is held on July 30th to raise awareness\, encourage vigilance and gain support for the prevention of human trafficking.

DESCRIPTION:The Nelson Mandela International Day campaign remains rooted in the call Nelson Mandela made in 2009 to honour him by working in communities rather than by celebrating his birthday. While 18 July remains a focal point for the campaign\, we urge people supporting the campaign to participate in sustainable interventions with lasting impact. \nThe theme for 2022 is \n“Do what you can\, with what you have\, wherever you are.” \nThe context\, of course\, is a world in which inequality continues to grow and in which the destructive impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed existing disparities and damaged vulnerable communities in all kinds of ways. The call to action is as broad and as inclusive as possible – identify those in need around you and do what you can to make a difference for them.
